Spring flushing of fire hydrants has begun in the City of Stratford, and will continue over the next six weeks.
This is something that the City does twice a year, typically in the spring and the fall, to remove iron that may have settled in the watermains, and as preventative maintenance on fire hydrants.
For Wednesday, April 16, crews are expected to be working in the areas of:
Customers in these areas and surrounding neighbourhoods could experience some discoloured water, but water quality is not affected by this. Discoloured water will clear, but before doing laundry, please check to see that water has cleared.
Please note that the hydrant flushing schedule is not fixed. It changes every day depending on a number of factors, including the weather, availability of staff and the length of time it takes to clear the hydrants in a neighbourhood. For that reason, we aren’t able to post the flushing schedule in advance.
For more information, please visit our Discoloured Water webpage, or call the City’s Water Division at 519-271-0250, ext. 5222 during business hours.
