The Fire Department’s primary role is to deliver fire suppression services, which include fire control and containment with an emphasis on fire prevention.
The Stratford Fire Department’s 40 firefighters include 4 Senior Captains, 8 Captains, and 28 firefighters, working four front line vehicles at two stations.
Public education, fire inspections and prevention efforts are decreasing fires locally. Several commercial and residential inspections occur year round which include Ontario Fire Code and by-law enforcement.
As part of our suppression efforts, the department responds to:

- Machinery rescue and extrication
- Medical aid responses
- Hazardous materials leaks and spills
- Ice and water rescue
- Airport firefighter response
- Mutual aid calls for assistance
