The Heritage Stratford Committee is an advisory committee to City Council and advises Council on properties for heritage designation, heritage permits, and other heritage planning matters.
Mandate
Heritage Stratford Committee provides advice and assistance to owners and occupants of Stratford properties:
- Buildings within the Heritage Conservation District of Stratford, and in Heritage Areas and Corridors identified in the City's Official Plan.
- Designation of heritage buildings and other significant properties the renovation of existing buildings, or the construction of new buildings, in order that their design is consistent with the general atmosphere and appearance of the surrounding area. To this end, Heritage Stratford Committee may request Council to designate an area or building of historical or architectural value or interest and may request City Council to:
i) acquire property in the City;
ii) to take steps to prohibit demolition, destruction, or
alterations of such buildings without the approval of Council. - Long term planning.
- Advocacy for heritage conservation.
When an application for a demolition, building or sign permit relating to a Part IV and/or Part V heritage building, Heritage Stratford is notified immediately in order to contact the owner of the property to offer advice and assistance.
Heritage Stratford Committee assists in creating an informed environment that supports and enhances the preservation of a historical community through:
- Advocacy and promotion for Heritage Conservation
- Education
- Long Term planning
- Preparation of a building Inventory

The term of appointment for the Heritage Stratford Committee is two years. Applications for this committee are accepted annually in October. Application forms can be found on the Advisory Committee page.
